Biophilic Governance is a platform for new ways of creating political, cultural, spatial, and affective relationships with the more-than-human world. The site brings together research, biosemiotics, biophilic devices, participatory methods, embodied practices, workshops, publications, and experiments toward more caring and interdependent cities.

Biophilic City Lab

This platform combines research, principles and concepts, biophilic devices, more-than-human representations, embodied practices, workshops and city-lab experiments, publications, projects, and the idea of pinterdependent cities for humans and non-humans alike.

Biophilic devices

Biophilic devices are experimental tools, artifacts, and interfaces designed to support new forms of attention, listening, and relation with the more-than-human world. Rather than treating nature as background or resource, these devices explore how design can mediate encounters with other beings, ecological processes, and forms of environmental meaning, making interdependence more perceptible and actionable.

Embodied workshops

These workshops translate research into lived experience through movement, observation, listening, making, and collective experimentation. They invite participants to explore ecological relationships through the body, creating space for attunement, reciprocity, and new forms of more-than-human imagination that go beyond purely intellectual understandings of sustainability.

Publications & essays

Publications, essays, and ongoing writings that develop the theoretical and critical foundations of Biophilic Governance. The texts explore more-than-human participation, biosemiotics, ecological care, design, governance, and interdependence, while also reflecting on how these ideas can move from academic discourse into cultural, artistic, and practical forms.

Fieldwork and Research

Field work is a central part of Biophilic Governance, grounding theoretical questions in specific places, communities, ecosystems, and lived situations. Through observation, mapping, interviews, participatory methods, ecological listening, and situated experimentation, the research investigates how humans and other beings already coexist, negotiate space, and create meaning together.

About Biophilic Governance

Biophilic Governance is an evolving framework for rethinking how cities, institutions, and communities relate to the living world. It asks how political, cultural, spatial, and ontological structures might expand beyond human-centered (Anthropocene) models to recognize other beings as meaningful participants in collective life. The project moves beyond sustainability as mitigation toward relationships based on care, reciprocity, affection, and interdependence.

A laboratory for multi-species coexistence

The Laboratory for Interdependence is envisioned as a space for research, experimentation, and public engagement where artists, designers, researchers, communities, and other forms of knowledge can explore new ways of living together across species. It brings together biophilic devices, participatory methods, embodied practices, ecological observation, and speculative interventions to test how more caring, responsive, and interconnected forms of urban life might be imagined and rehearsed.
